Kockum Sonics KTG-9

Mon Feb 11, 2008 1:10 am

Enjoy the beautiful and unique sound of the Kockum Sonics KTG-9 pneumatic air-horn siren. Made in Sweden, used in Switzerland, and sounds like a herd of drunken trombonists.

That kind of looks like that Silent Hill movie siren, heh.

Finally, a system of horns that actually DOES send a scare down me! I don't know as to whether it is just me, but that set of horns sound rather troubled... :?

Here is a page from the Swiss government showing the sirens in use there, with a closeup of the KTG-9.

The Swiss have such an interesting and varied siren system. Of course, with such a remarkable Civil Defense plan, it's no wonder they make good sirens!

And yes, that does look like the Silent Hill siren. A lot. To the point where I think they used one of those horn sets in the movie.

The original siren has more horns than the Silent Hill movie siren, so I suppose it's not an exact replica, but it was probably the siren that inspired the movie siren. How fascinating. :X

Looking at that page, I can say that the Hormann-like siren either gets its speakers from Hormann, or both it and Hormann get their speakers from some other company.

Damn, that is one creepy-sounding set of horns. It sounds very much like the horns that Floral Park NY had prior to the advent of the Clark-Coopers in May of 1972. FP had a cluster of six similar horns (I think they were a mixed set of Leslie super-tyfons) on their headquarters. It sounded like a defective pipe organ.
