ASC E-Class? ATI?

which one is which!? they look the same. Maybe we could be mistaking the unreliable ati for these look-a-likes. anyhow, does anyone know how you can distingiush a difference by looking at the siren?

Yes, they are both Kingstar specials. The differences are that the E-Class uses square waves and Class C amplifiers and the HPSS uses sine waves and Class D amplifiers. The HPSS is an excellent outdoor loudspeaker that can be adapted to imitate a siren. The E-Class is not so good as a loudspeaker but is better adapted to imitating a siren.

When I use the term siren, I am referring to a mechanical or electro-mechanical device that forces air through ports in order to make sound at fundamental frequencies (plus their harmonics, of course). In my view, no electronic device that uses speaker-drivers can be considered a siren - although some do a really good imitation of a siren and therefore can be considered as practically the same thing.

I disagree. Sirens are sirens, it doesn't matter how they produce the tone as long as they do so. There is a difference between (electro-)mechanical and electronic sirens, and the general term "air raid siren" usually means mechanical or electro-mechanical.
What would you call an electronic vehicle siren?

E-Class and ATI's are totally different. Basically, ASC has the designs of all other siren manufacturers with their own electronics. The E-Class is definitely higher-quality and less prone to blowouts, but the design is extremely similar and people can be tricked into thinking it's an ATI. Surprisingly, I haven't seen too many E-Classes in the wild.
