Hawaii's Federal Signal symphony

Tue Mar 04, 2008 8:24 pm

Siren test day has come and gone. I finally had the chance to take advantage of what the Edirol R-09 recorder can do. Video on Youtube to follow soon (Youtube has crap for sound, even in stereo since it only can support up to 96kb/s).

So, here it is. Feel free to download it and immerse yourself in this uncompressed 48kHz 16-bit WAV quality(hmm, thought I recorded 24-bit.... next time).

I also recorded the EAS test on the radio too. That will be coming shortly as soon as freesound approves it.

Great recording! I couldn't hear the EOWS 612 though. You picked a great location for a system recording!

Sure is, here's the exact sirens you were hearing in the sound clip:
Ala Wai Boat harbor EOWS 612
Waikiki Library 1000T
Ala Wai park 1000T - took a picture of this one yesterday and it has a plastic bag inside the horn now and is 1/2 full of trash. Doesn't stop it from sounding though!!!
University of Hawaii Manoa 1000T

Awesome recording, and thanks for putting up the direct download link. I really didn't want to bother with creating an account at that website.

That EOWS 612 really hurts the ears with it's high pitch. The Thunderbolts sound great.
