where do you find your sirens?

so how do you come across sirens?.. i wonder if i can find any sitting out on poles in the middle of the orange groves here.

yea.. who cares about all of these oranges.. reason i do want a siren is to let my sub division of 4,000 homes know when it is safe to go outside after a hurricane passes.

Well, if its going into service your not buying the siren yourself are you? People are putting in their money or the town is looking for one? If this is the case then I'd recommend something from www.sirencentral.com . About the only one you have a choice of though would be a Thunderbeam, but they are a good siren for $1500. Or you could get one from Sentry for about $2900. www.sentrysiren.com ...look for a 3V8 for something cheap. You can still get the T-beam cheaper and the complete installation will probably cost what one new 3V8 would.

If I were you, I would get a thunderbolt. Here are my reasons:
A: They're easy to find. Try cities, scrapyards, and even other collectors like I did.
B: They're not that big.
C: They aren't that loud, until you want it to be. They'll run on 110VAC, and you can use a shop vac for a blower.

Sorry I forgot to add all those options.. But yeah, Mike here has the idea. A Thunderbolt would be perfect. I'm not sure how much West Shore Fire wants for one but he's got like 80 of them. Might even try Lubbock TX. They're getting rid of theirs.

scrap yards eh.. ill pass one on the way to school tomorrow.. looks like im stopping there.. and i see an old firetruck sitting in a lot.. maybe i can get the siren off that truck if they dont mind.

i would love a thunderbolt. i listened to the sample of the 1003 dual tone.. it sounds wicked..

before we start giving suggestions, why dont we get to know what it is Thedon is actually trying to accomplish, who he is affilitated with, and what kind of $$$funding$$$ he has. are you part of the local government, Thedon? if not i highly advise you not to set up a siren for mucnicipal warning w/o permission.

funding.. yea.. 90% of my funding i get from my job goes to my car... 10% goes in my pocket.. which ends up going to the car in the end

can i have some funding? i'd like a new paint job on my car

If you are allowed to get a siren and you have deep pockets, DO NOT GET A THUNDERBOLT. Its not in any way designed for your needs. It will rapidly corrode and rust in your very humid climate. Its all open air aluminum inside, you would be sorry once you opened that thing up for maintanence a year later. Plus, they ARE bulky. Not all the parts are in one unit, it has 2 sections making it harder to transport and just in general harder to take care of. Plus, its not hardy enough to stand up to a hurricane, the horn will just rip right off the pole and in no time it will be toast. Along with that, it has no lightning protection technology, and lightning is usually associated with storms. it will get fried if it gets struck. I'd say that your best option is a siren from ASC or Whelen. They are impervious to rust and corrosion (made from fiberglass and stainless steel) and will stand up very well in a storm and can survive lightning. Plus, these new sirens have battery backup so if the power goes out you can still set them off, the thunderbolt wont accept power from batteries.
