Small siren followed me home--can anyone ID?

Wed Mar 26, 2008 1:00 am

I noticed this little guy while I was browsing the local scrap metal collection bin. The thing was disgustly filthy when I got it, covered in all kinds of dirt and tar. Probably had been sitting in a wet shed for 20 years.

After heavy cleaning and service, it works fine. At first I thought it was a 110V siren due to the two wires, but it's a 12V model. You can see the rather sizable switching relay mounted to the case.

Anyway, anyone know who might have made this or what model it is? It's about 3/4 the size of my Federal EG. It's missing the intake horn or screen, but it never appears to have had a motor cover. The rotor isn't very well designed and as a result doesn't move much air until it's running at speed. No good growl like the Federal.

That is a small Ademco security alarm siren, it's just missing the projector on the front.

Pyramid Head has one.

Definitely a car alarm-type siren from the 60's or 70's. They usually had a relay on the side.

Thanks. I don't think this is like PH's siren, other than the general design.

I went over the thing with a fine-tooth comb and found "Yugoslavia" barely readable on the bottom of the motor. That's it, no other markings.

Hmm, Yugoslavia. A lot of sirens were made there for security systems. Most of them have a gold-colored motor housing, a steel grille, and operate on 120 volts (still used in a few places in Europe). They were wall mounted and many European companies built similar sirens for burglar alarms. I have a 120-volt Yugoslavian siren and has a rotor almost exactly the same size as my Model A, with equivalent sound output. Yours looks like the 12-volt version, minus the grille and housing.
