Baxter

Thu Mar 06, 2008 10:54 pm

I'm going to be driving through Baxter, MN at the end of May, and I will try to get a picture of it. Sadly, I won't be able to be there on the first Wednesday of the month, when MN usually tests their sirens.

Any idea if it's on a pole or on a building?

Rochester has 43 2001s, and 2 EOWS-612 dual tone sirens, each one used at an outdoor park.

Stewartville, Austin, Byron, Kasson and Oronoco all have 2001s, Oronoco also has a Model 5 at the fire station.

In Zumbrota I have seen a 2T22, a Thunderbeam, and a Model 2.

Pine Island has an Allertor, and an Eclipse at the fire station.

Elgin has a 2001 and an Erick/Erickson 12 port.

Goodview has 2001s, and at one point I believe had 2T22s.

The Prairie Island Nuclear Plant has a system mainly of 2001s, and I know of one yellow Modulator across from Treasure Island Casino, right next to Prairie Island.

Well, now we might have another 130 in the wild! This could get intresting.....

The Hurricane 130 (square horned) is in Baxter Minnesota, west of highway 371 on highway 210. It is north of the road on a pole. You should see it from the road. I had accidently drove too far west and was trying to find a place to turn around when I spotted it.

Thanks Volodia! I'll try to find it when I drive thru there in May.

tboltkid520 is right, Austin has a system of 2001s. They were installed in the early 2000s, replacing a system of 100Ts, 2T22s and SD-10s. There is also a Model 2/5 on the Mapleview watertower, and a Darley on our municipal utilities building, both inactive. The old sirens are now in the smaller surrounding communities. Lyle has an ACA, Blooming Prairie and Brownsdale have STH-10s. There is a T-bolt on the State Fairgrounds (as of around 1999 or 2000) I can hear Mapleview's 2001 pretty well from here. Albert Lea also has 2001s. Owatonna has 2001s, a STH-10, Sentry and Thunderbeam (RSH-10) amongst others. Medford has a grey SD-10. That's all I can think of.

On that note, I also forgot to mention that Kasson has an STH-10 next to Highway 14, right by Kwik Trip, I don't know if it is active or not. It seems to be leaning to the side a bit :)

Sure do miss those Thunderbolts in Austin :(

I was in Rochester yesterday. They briefly test the sirens every Wed. at 10 AM. Here's a recording of the 2001 siren at 37th St. and 3rd Ave NW. (Hy-Vee/Goodwill area) You can hear the majority of the system go first, and if you listen really close, you'll be able to hear one of the EOWS*612s. Seconds after these wind down, I believe the 37th and 3rd one and others sound.

Awesome! It's nice that someone finally got a recording, I would have done one but things always seem to come up :). I do plan on taking pictures of all 43 2001s and the 2 EOWS-612 sirens this summer however.

Is that really the EOWS-612 I hear? I only ask because the closest one is almost 14 miles from Hy-vee North, at Chester Woods Park, and the direction the sound would be coming from is very hilly terrain. Unless there is another one we don't know about :?:

Hi, I'm new to the thread. I don't actually live in Minnesota but a lot of my family does and I'm there often.

I know Lindstrom has a Federal 2001, Chisago City has at least one Thunderbolt and a Thunderbeam. I'm pretty sure Center City has a Model 5/7, not positive though.
