Minnesota State Tornado Drill, 2001 DC Siren

Fri Apr 25, 2008 4:57 am

UPDATE 5/16/08: I have the high quality video finally! I got my video converter.

The state of Minnesota tested their sirens today. The first test was at 1:45 PM, and the second test was at 6:55 PM. Each test was 3 minutes long. The tests are part of Minnesota's yearly Severe Weather Awareness Week.

A storm passed through, so it made the drill more realistic! The first Videos I have are in bad quality, but the sound is pretty good, I also filmed it with a tape camera, but can't get that good quality video onto the computer until I get a converter. One neat thing was that a bird sat on the siren for 15 minutes, until it turned on.
I'll update this post when I get the high quality video on.

Awesome videos! They did the first test here in Rochester, but by the time 6:55 rolled around, nothing. I guess the sky was way too dark and stormy looking, and they probably didn't want to give people the idea that something was actually happening.

This siren sounds a lot like a Model 5 once it gets going. It's just a little higher pitched than the other 2001-DC's I've heard. I like the 2001-DC's lower pitch.

We had ours as well at 1:45, but, just as with tboltkid520, come 6:55 the weather was too bad to sound them.

Here's a vid from KAAL about sirens and the NWS:

It features a roundback 2001.

Surprisingly, however, they sounded our 2001s in ATTACK mode! My parents called me up and were panicked because they thought it was a real warning. I told 'em that it's just a mock warning. They did go to the basement though, which is good.

That roundback isn't in Austin, is it? I know Rochester has some old 2001s, but no roundbacks. Albert Lea maybe?

Hopefully you meant 5/16/2008 rather 4/16/2008.
