Milwaukee P-50 Video

Well, the Milwaukee County Siren drought is finally over. Today at noon, for the first time in almost 7 months, the County EM office saw fit to test the siren system. I recorded the ACA P-50 at Greenfield Park in West Allis, WI. They only tested a 1 minute alert. There's usually a minute of attack as well, but not today. As long as I've been watitng, I'll take what I can get.

This video inspired me to look through all of the sirens in Wisconsin on the Siren Archive...I got most of the way through before I had to take a break. I noticed that while the state has a lot of Thunderbolts, it also has an awful lot of ACA/ASC sirens, including what seems to me to be one of the largest concentrations of P-50s in the U.S. Any explanations for this?

Yep, they are located in Milwaukee.
The whole current siren system in Milwaukee County is made up of ACA/ASC products. Before ASC added all the P-50's and Allertors that mostly make up the city of Milwaukee's system, there were lots of Model 2's, probably hundreds of them. There are still a few of them around, unused. Other municipalities in Milwaukee County such as West Allis had old, non-rotating Allertors and Mobile Directos, which have since been replaced with newer ACA or ASC products. The city of Wauwatosa, where I live, used to have Model 2's and an Allertor. A P-50 was added in the 1980's, and the Allertor removed in the late 1990's. There is still one of the old Model 2's around. Kenosha county has mostly ACA (P-50's). Waukesha and Racine counties have a lot of ACA/ASC products around as well. Federal has probably the strongest presence overall outside these areas, though.
