PLYMOUTH, MICHIGAN to remove all THUNDERBOLTS

Well, that is what I saw posted on a great video of a 1000T doing an Attack in Plymouth.

So I called Plymouth today and spoke with the assistant Fire Chief, and he said that they do plan to replace the Thunderbolts.

I asked him, however if they would sound this Saturday, August 2nd. He told me for all intents and purposes, that they should, because everything is still hooked up nothing changed.

Can anyone confirm this for me? Where do they actually "set off" the sirens, perhaps I could find out for sure. Im just a little nervous that I may have missed the last sounding and want to record that 1000T in attack as well. Any info appreciated!

Newer sirens are generally set off from the fire station, police station, or city hall. Via a DTMF encoder.
Since the thunderbolt is an older siren,
they are probably set off by leased access telephone line.

Depends on who owns them and such. Here the County controls all sirens, but I believe Plymouth owns and controls their sirens, so they are probably set off at the fire dept or other City Government facility.
Doesn't surprise me they are replacing their sirens. Soon the whole United States will have 2001-130s everywhere.

NAH! Some cities are smart and either keep their old sirens or buy T-128s instead.

The Plymouth Community 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, activates the sirens in Plymouth City and Township. In the past, the Plymouth City Police Dept, set the sirens off in the city, while Plymouth Twp. PD, would activate the sirens in the Township. However, since dispatch operations have merged, the 9-1-1 Center sets the sirens off in both jurisdictions.

They use either 154.370 MHz, or 155.565 MHz, to activate the sirens.

I'm almost positive that they are 2001-130s, seeing as everyone else in the area are going with those as replacements for the old systems. The only one that I've seen so far that is not going with the 2001s is Canton, who is slowly replacing their Thunderbolt 1003s with ASC T-128s. As far as I know, the only one that they have replaced so far is the 1003 at Warren & Ridge, but aren't removing the 'Bolt because of the antennas on the pole (which are for something else).

If they are replaced with federal signal sirens, I will ask West Shore Services, they would be installing them then. The owner should be able to tell me when that project will begin. When I talked to him last week, he e-mail me that they are going to be finishing the Detroit system in august, So it may be a month or so later before it begins?

Hey, here's one of Plymouth, MI's Thunderbolt, and get this, just 1000! A very rare T-Bolt. But it's damaged, it's by an old Fire Station. Cool for you to mention this as soon as I found this:

I think that it is very sad to see such old and rare sirens replaced. Have you thought about adopting one? Ask them if you can have it, if they already are sending it somewhere, ask the place they could be sending it to, to see if you can have the siren. It's probably just going to get sraped or used for parts...*shiver*. Ohhh, I hate the thought...
