Question About Allertor sirens

Hi i just have a couple of questions about the ACA Allertors. Mainly the Canadian issued ones like in the picture below. If anyone has any history about them like when they came or such. I think Canada took the design for Canada ( Toronto) from the US before they got there own, but thats it. Please help even if its the US version. Also how many volts does it take to power?

Actually, that right there is a Mobile Directo, which I understand is a belt driven Allertor. This is before the regular Allertor. There are some of these in the US.

Hmm...I thought Allertors were ultimately driven via gear-reducer.

Yes, they are primarily driven by a small gear-mechanism, just like the Penetrators, but underneath that teardrop cover is a belt, not chain, connecting the drive shaft to the big pulley. Also, the Allertor has a simple right-angle drive, while an MD looks somewhat beefier. I should have explained myself better.
