I couldn't see round the fourth side. I've never heard of FOUR diaphones in one spot, but I have seen three.
Company 1 is confirmed two diaphones, that's clearly visible. I am trying to avoid a gas-wasting wild goose chase in Ansonia, so any information that can be passed along would be very much appreciated.

thanks!
last time i drove by company one was a few days ago. from up on the hill of Coram Ave you can see what seems to be 3 horns atop company 1.

Company 3 may indeed be diaphones. i haven't gotten an up close look at either of the fire houses horns however.

You have'nt seen anything of Hartford's t-bolts. They have 15 of them (16 counting the one that was atop the Hartford Courant building. Also new to the board

Ah, there you are, it's good that you found my thread promptly. Perhaps you could list where some of the Hartford Tbolts are that I haven't mentioned yet.

Well, in the meantime, moving away from Hartford Tbolts, here's a great new discovery I made using Google Maps. I was just wandering around West Hartford on Google Maps, taking a look at Wolcott Street. I saw a school, and interestingly enough, its driveway had street view too. So in I went, and I suddenly saw a Model 2!

Here it is from a different angle:

I did some research...this is called the Wolcott School, and it's a public elementary school.

Of course, I may not actually get a chance to photograph this siren, so I invite any other CT siren hunters to go ahead and do so if they get a chance. Interesting that no one knew about this siren before...

All right, thanks. I thought it appeared to have three shroud-thingys (not quite sure what the proper term is) rather than two, which would suggest it was a Model 2 and not a Model 5. But we'll see.

Well, today, I was in Unionville, just sitting at the traffic light at the junction of routes 4 and 177, when my eyes began to wander, and I noticed, in the distance, on top of a radio pole sort of thing...a siren! Now I know, after years of frustration, what Unioville's siren is...a Model 2 that looked from a distance to possibly a Darley or GCS or one of those variants. It's a sort of rusty red color and not easy to spot at all. The pole it's one must also have the antennas for signaling the firefighters' pagers, or however such things work. Here it sort of is on Google Maps...the antenna is that white thing sticking up from behind the trees in the center of the image: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 54.97,,0,5

Actually, CTsirenhunter, you're starting to find some obsure old gems. The siren atop the Wolcott school is a 3 or possibly an older 5. There's one more for you to seek out..same model, same raised platform mount...it's atop the Norfeldt Elem. School in the same town. These are elusive gems. I've had some good photos of them for years, just never got around to scanning them onto a site like "Photobucket." The last of West Hartford's old sirens is atop Town Hall: an old, inactive SDL-10. I am in possession of an old, rusty single-tone 2 that was taken off the pole for me about 5 years ago.
I love/photograph/collect old pole sirens! Let's restore those rusty relics!

Sirenmike1, thank you for this information. I am in fact very much aware of the Town Hall STL-10, having taken several pictures of it in the past...one of the teachers at my school, who grew up in West Hartford, remembers hearing it sound back in the day.

I'll check out that one on the Norfeldt school right now...ah, there's the siren, just to the right of the chimney: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source= ... 40.74,,0,5

I checked it out and it's pretty low. Looks to be a model 3. I also got some pics that I'll post later

A while back in this thread, someone told me about (and posted a picture of) a Model 5 in New Hartford, CT that was actually mounted up in a cell tower. I always assumed I knew where it was and had hoped to see it for the first time today, but wound up traveling through New Hartford by a different route.

So imagine my surprise when, at the intersection of Route 219 and U.S. 202, I look up at the cell tower on Antolini Rd. (named for the Ann Antolini school, a New Hartford middle school) and there's the siren way up top! I didn't have a camera, but I was very happy to finally know where that siren is. Mystery solved!
