New siren paint for Model 2

Tue Aug 11, 2009 3:20 am

Greetings,

I am looking for a good finish for my new Model 2. After it's housing is cleaned up, I would like to have it painted. Now, I was thinking on a good auto paint, but you need to bake that stuff. I could powder coat, but it won't be out in the weather all year.

Any ideas on a good type of paint that doesn't look like a pre-school finger painting? :)

Get a can of Caterpillar Yellow. There's no true CD Yellow paint.

Same here. In my opinion, nothing beats bright yellow on a siren.

I think yellow would be the best because it's a classic color for sirens :)

model 2 paint response

Yellow is cool, but I like forest green.

I was thinking more along the lines of what type of paint. I could go powder coating or auto paint, but that's expensive. I think 'hardware store' spray-paint-in-a-can is kind of cheap.

What do cities usually use? :?

I have used Krylon spray paint(w/o the clear coat step) on three model 2 housing's with much success. Unless you clear coat it though, the Krylon paint does remain "soft" and will chip/scratch rather easily if handled carelessly. My three have been out in the weather for several years without any signs of problems.

I have decided to go with the 'forest green' color. Reminds me the Coleman lantern effect. :)
