Jeep Siren Federal VG or similar, original and replica Q&

Tue Aug 25, 2009 8:23 pm

Hello Everyone, Siren Forum Virgin here! Be gentle with me......

My Dad has a Willys Jeep (12V), that he takes the grandchildren out to have a drive in. A siren would be a really nice addition to his pride and joy.

I am no expert on sirens, so I have come to ask you lot ~ the experts ~ for advise and some direction.

Most of the Jeep traders offer what appears to be a Federal VG. Have I got this bit right? We are not fussed about it being the right year, model, date plate etc, it would just be nice if it looked in period and in keeping with the Jeep, whilst of course making the right noise!

Are there other variants that could be considered? The Federal VO model for instance? What about other manufacturers. I have heard of MARS, did they do one? Any more I should be aware of?

I am in the UK and one of the Jeep traders, lists a Repro item that is the same as the Federal VG. Take a look at their website 'Jeeparts'. I have the pic, but how do I post it on the forum?

I called them today and asked about this item. It's a very good replica in 6V or 12V and is made Eastern Europe. Sadly non in stock mind you, but some due later this year.

Has anyone any experience with this Siren? Does anyone know where they are made and by who? As they are a professional outfit and held in high regard, I cant imagine they are selling duff stuff, so can anyone shed any light on this?

Also are there any other replicas, being made that would be suitable?

It would of course be nice to have the real deal, a NOS item in the box, but the ones I have seen are big bucks. Even the ones that are (well) used second hand items seem to command a hefty premium.

Is it worth getting a replica or saving up for the real deal.

Please educate me!

Thank you in advance
