Mystery Siren!

Fri Sep 04, 2009 2:44 am

So I am currently a freshman at VCU, and we had our monthly siren test...yesterday? September second, so yeah. Yesterday. ANYWAY. I heard the haunting sound, and fell in love with it. There are 10 Sirens around campus, 2 big ones, and 8 little ones. I have no idea what kind the little ones are, but I managed to get a picture of one of the big ones on top of our library.

So there's the link. Also, I'm going to tape next month's test/try and find the smaller sirens, so we can hopefully ID the smaller ones. I might tape it anyway, because it sounds so chilling. :3
Here are the individual pics...

Just in case the other link doesn't work.

WELCOME to the siren forum, I bet youd never had figured there were other people that had this "bizzare" interest!!

That is a Federal Signal 130 dbl model 2001 siren.

If the small ones looked like white donuts on a stick, those are probably Modlators!

I figured it was a 2001. (I looked in the museum section) and it looked similar. What exactly do you call people like us? Enthusiasts?

Siren Enthusiasts. Most of the neighbors just call us annoying.
Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.

Some people think I'm a bit off, but my neighbors seem fine with me testing a fully operational thunderbolt on the first wednesday!
Weird!

I think my neighbors finally went insane, because lately every new siren is louder than the one before it.

Two days ago i tested my Federal fire siren (model 66-G) and this thing is loud! I used the battery from our car and my neighbours (from behind us) were just staring at me for the longest time, like i was retarded and then they yelled "Is there a fire?" and im just like nope its ok, and they still stared at me for a while.

Thought it was kinda funny :)
