Owasso Thuderbolts

Thu Oct 15, 2009 1:43 pm

I have found evidence that Owasso used to have Thunderbolts, two to be exact. The only things I found were blower boxes. I believe EOWS 1212s replaced these; I only found the 1212 siren heads laying on the ground at a garage.

 The question is, did anyone live in the Tulsa metro in the sixties or seventies and does anyone know where these were located? It would be neat to find out!

I have lived in Tulsa and the surrounding areas for 44 years (yes I know I am old) all but one year I lived in Dallsa TX.

I only ever saw one T-bolt in Owasso and it was located right east of HWY 169 near the Mazzios Pizza there is some sort sewage pumping station and a generator behind a fenced in area. If I remeber corectly it was taken down in 2003 OR 04 the the rotator and choper/horn assembly lay on the ground for 6 or 7 months befor it was picked up. Also there were alot of 2t22's around town.In fact there is still one 2t22 hooked up to power near 96th st north all the rest were replaced with ATI's.
There were 2 1212 EWOS installed then as well, one was where the soccer fields are now and one was in a neighbor hood area of of 86th st.
Hope this helps.

Wow, we did have Thunderbolts at one point. I recall crossing a 3T22 where you described seeing the 'bolt, and it was fairly new. It of course has been removed, but I have found some existing T22s:

1. Owasso HS
2. Hayward Smith Elementary
3. Ator Heights
4. Jeff Mills Elementary

That makes a total of 21 sirens in Owasso. I wish they kept the 'bolt so I could see it. Well, thanks for the info!
