Found an SD-10 (Durham)

Tue Mar 16, 2010 12:20 am

Well I'm not sure I so much found it, as I was driving and simply looked up! I'd been told there were sirens in Durham but I'd never seen one. It sits atop an abandoned Public Health building thats for lease. I'm going to try to contact them and see if I can get anyone to talk to me about it (or selling it..)

I dont know anything about it. I call the company and gave them my name, number, etc. The guy said he would talk to the owner of the building and call back to me.

Mac, I've seen that siren a lot. There are at least 3 other SD10s around Durham. Also, theres an old model 2 on a building just a few blocks from there near the Amtrak station.

I've thought about acquiring that SD10 before, but it would be wayyyy to much money and trouble to get it down.

I think one is right off of business 15-501. Adam Pollak actually found the other SD10s.

It sure is, or was at the time. Most of the taller buildings are newer I think.

Old thread, yak yak yak. At least this time there is relevant and potentially new information! The Durham system has come to my attention lately, and me and Jared decided to do some detective work. The 1964 OCD list says Durham has the following:

6x SD-10
2x Thunderbolt
1x Model 2

We have found some of the locations and are seeking more information as to the system. So far we have found:

Thunderbolts:
Erwin Auditorium (Bolt that is in the woods on OpenDurham, Still there as of '14 (I saw it then))
Fire Station 6 (still up)

SD-10s:
Health Dept. Building (removed)
In the vicinity of Durham Regional, apparently on 501 Business
Club Blvd. at Roxboro St. (Removed btw. 2010-2013 due to construction of a BP)
Maureen Joy school
Two more still to be located...

Model 2:
Fernway Ave. (Thanks Jason!)
