That design is a good idea, especially since federal used the flimsiest screen material known to man.

One is listed at 2465 Little Dry Run Road (roof mounted on a school) and the other is at 8100 Given Road on a pole in Anderson Twp. It looks like they both have a screen over the bars. The survey was taken in 2002, so I don't know if these are still in service.
What number are they on the disk?

OH My Gosh the siren at Given Rd. is at the shop and it was the one in the back that was redone. I will look tomorrow and if it is I will take a picture and will keep it for your inspection next get together.

I have seen a few Thunderbolts in the Omaha area (before they were removed in 2004) that had this type of screen, one was next to a soccer field at Tranquility park

A Thunderbolt with a similar screen was featured on "Let's Face It", available on Civil Defense Museum and (probably) YouTube.

Could it just be an optical illusion that they just made the inside of the horn a little darker so it just brings out more features? And I also notice that the "screen" has the same texture with the rest of the paper, just that dark color makes it more eye catching.

That one has the same tic-tac-toe grills, but no frame around it.
