Sirens in weird places

I guess the planners tried to figure the best place to reach the most people, and I have to say that some of those places are strange. Probably the one that made me think twice, is the (former) Chrysler installed on the Fox Theater in Pomona, CA. Can you imagine watching Pearl Harbor, and having the Chrysler roar up in the middle of the movie?

And there is a 500T in the middle of a putting green in Los Angeles.

We discussed The White Oak and Simonson Rd. 1000ts and how they keep tripping the rotator circuits uder icy conditions. There are some others ,but i'm not remembering them at the moment.

Is the YMCA 1000T another one? When I look at this one with Bird's Eye images, I can see the blower, but it appears to be the same color as the roof, just like the Salvation Army Tbolt. Was this one also roofed over the blower?

That is a definite possibility. I think the rotator on that 1000T is not working as well.

One strange installation I remember seeing was at the Wyoming-Utah border at Evanston, where a 2001 stands near the weigh station just inside Wyoming and another one stands across I-80 no more than a quarter mile away. Most Wyoming towns have siren systems.

There are a couple of Model 2s (at least I think they're Model 2s; I've never looked that hard) outside either end of Eisenhower Tunnel up in the mountains. Both rusted all to hell. I'm not sure what they're used for.

According to Wikipedia, the sirens are part of a safety system to prevent oversized vehicles from entering the tunnels:

Sensors will activate audible sirens near each entrance of the tunnel if a vehicle above the posted height attempts to enter the tunnel. Traffic signals at that entrance will turn red, stopping all traffic. The entrance will remain closed until the over-height vehicle is removed from the freeway, sometimes causing severe delays for all traffic. CDOT noted that prior to the retrofit, about 20,000 vehicles per year tripped the alarm. The trucking industry argued that many of these trucks were under the height requirement but tripped the alarm due to their air suspensions (which can be manually lowered for the duration of the journey through the tunnel) or due to winter snow and ice on top of the trailer.

If it is only for oversize trucks I would think a flashing red light and perhaps a digital scroll warning would be more effective than a siren that would leave the hapless trucker to wonder about why the siren is sounding.

Franklin, Tennessee has some sirens placed in some weird areas. For example, there is a Modulator 2008 on top of an enclosed staircase at a parking garage (I have recorded it, however the siren was messed up big time), a Modulator and a 2001 less than a mile away form each other that I saw myself just the other day (Alasiren1977 has a recording), a Modulator 1004 placed behind a two-story business building out in the middle of nowhere, and a few other weird locations.

Brentwood, Tennessee also has a few strange placements, including a 2001-SRN beside the road at the end of a driveway, a new 2001-SRNB pretty much in the middle of nowhere beside a small utility building, and a few other Modulators placed in some off-the-wall places. I'm sure there are plenty more, I haven't gotten around to finding them all and snapping pictures of them all. The first siren in the system was installed in 2000.

McEwen, Tennessee installed a system of 5 Sentry 3V8-H's/7V8's in 1999 that are all within a two-mile range. There is one placed beside a CO-OP building, another beside a church, and another less than 1/4 of a mile beside a fire department. Planning on catching a video of those soon.
