Well, many of the counties around here in MI sound the sirens for severe thunderstorms with winds that are 70mph or higher. Even if theres not a tornado, those are still pretty damaging winds - and while you dont necessarily need to take cover, you shouldnt really be outdoors.

I was at work when the first tornado warning was issued around 9 am. Did the STH-10 at the Coloma fire dept or the Palisades Nuclear Plant 2001s sound? Nope. Maybe when the second warning came across around 10 am? Why, that would be a waste of electricity...

Oh, I almost forgot, (most of) Berrien county has a policy of not sounding sirens UNTIL THERE IS A CONFIRMED TORNADO TOUCHDOWN!!! :x

Dont know if the Niles Allertors were set off since they all ended up pointing north with the strong south winds, but I know the massive 2001 system in St. Joseph county Indiana was triggered multiple times.

How many Allertors are there in Niles? I've seen just one video of one in a park someplace - forget the name - are there others?

There are 3 in Niles. The one in the video has a loose rotator drive chain or something because it only takes about a 15-20 mph wind to turn it. During one test, a gust of wind stopped its rotation for a couple seconds. The other 2 only turn when there is a very strong wind, like yesterday.

I had decided to skip lunch to work on our group project for engineering. It was about 11:55 when I finished eating my lunch in the engineering lab and I checked the weather on the computer; all we had was a sever thunderstorm warning. 5 minutes later I heard the 9/12 port screamer down the street from my high school go off, and our school's tornado alarm system followed by a few minutes later. In the end we were told to get in the closet in the room and stay there until an all clear was issued by the school administrators. I guess the only reason we went under a warning was because the history of the storm for it had already produced a few tornadoes in Ohio earlier in the day. Barely even rained where I was
