Canton, Ohio Tornado sirens

Tue Jan 11, 2011 11:22 pm

Well there are now 12 F.S. 2001's as part of Canton's system.
The newest one being a 2001-130 at a golf coarse just outside of the city.

Here is a reference to a map of Canton's sirens.

Does anybody know what Canton's old civil defense system had?
I think I saw a SD-10 once on a school building on Bing Maps. :?

Also I saw a Whelen WPS- 2x10 or 2x09 at Timken on Dueber Rd. Is it part of Canton's system too?

I compared where Google Maps locates Timken and the map Canton provides, and it doesn't show a siren of theirs at that location, so I would say that it isn't.
Resident of a county with big a mixture of sirens, but in the process of being replaced. :(

Question: Do other Northeast Ohio cities such as Akron, Youngstown and Cleveland still have operating siren systems?

I know the City of Cleveland no longer does, but many of the suburbs do.

I'm not sure about Akron or Youngstown.

Akron does not have a siren system, but I think Youngstown has sirens.

Here's an article about Mahoning County's sirens going to be upgraded. This is the county Youngstown is in.

And here's a page on Mahoning County EMA's website about the sirens. It has a list of the locations.

Do they have one dominant type of siren, or is their mix pretty diverse? (Sorry, rather than typing in each location in google maps I'm trying to see if anyone could spare some information on it   )

Well from what I saw on Streetview, I've seen Whelen Vortex/400x's. I know Lordstown has a couple EOWS 612's and the Bordman Fire Dept. has a Thunderbolt.

Hi all, I've been a member for a while, but this is my first time posting here. I purchased 5 sirens off of Montgomery County, Ohio. This was a nice mix of (2) 10 hp ACA Screamers, a Federal SD-10, A Sentry 10V, and a Sentry 10V2T
