"A Kansas Nightmare"

Fri Feb 11, 2011 2:36 pm

This is some rarely seen footage of the 1991 Andover/ So. Wichita tornado. The Twister was developed by a Supercell 19 miles west of Andover, KS at about 3:50 that afternoon. At about 4:25, The twister made it's way through Andover, Nearly cleaning the city from the map. The Tornado Tracked on 4 more miles into southeast wichita, Then to south wichita, Causing major damage to few buildings. Many lives were lost, Many were injured. As this is a day that us as Kansas should never forget. The tornado later dissipated, Just about 4 miles south of Wichita, Leaving a track longer than 40 miles.

This was part of the Andover breakout, 55 tornadoes spawned at the time. Tornadoes are both magnificent and violent forces of nature, there's nothing else like it.

If I remember correctly, there was a VHS Tape from 1996 called "Twisters" and had a collection of videos, and one part featured the Andover twister and had a Thunderbolt in the distance.

Wasn't that the same storm that chased a news team down the Kansas turnpike where they and some other people hid under an overpass which isn't the best thing to do in a tornado?

Yep, Hid under the gurders of the KTA bridge over 235 or something like that. I Find it odd that they did that, but altough it did provide some protection, it was not a "great" choice to hide from a hoover that big.
