Phoenix thunderbolts

Fri Mar 18, 2011 3:34 pm

I'm going to Phoenix in 2 weeks, and was wondering where some thunderbolts are standing. Anybody know where some are that are publicly accessible?

Thanks!

Here's a discussion from a little while back: http://www.airraidsirens.com/forums/vie ... ht=phoenix

There's also another one in downtown, located at the corner of W. Jefferson St. & S. 1st Ave.

That one on the roof of that building was kind of hard to find for me. It is still there though. It is right in the middle of down town Phoenix with all one way streets, hard to get parking spaces and very busy with cars and pedestrians. In a vehicle, it is hard to just slow down and take time to look around. I had to circle a few times to find it. When I did I was only able to catch a glimpse of it because I couldn't slow down with all of the traffic behind me. I think it would have been beter to just park and walk to find it. At least on foot you can take some time to look around.

I wanted to ask if I could come by some time and get up on the roof and take some good pictures. I doubt that will happen though since it is some Maricopa County government building. I think it is part of the courts, but with all of the driving around trying to find a siren in a roof I didn't pay too much attention to the sign at ground level. On top of it being a government building it is also a shout distance away from one of the county jails. Probably all good reasons not to have some stranger taking pictures on top of a government building roof with a birds eye view of the jail. Who knows unless you ask though.

Well, i found the STH in Peoria, AZ.
I also had a hotel almost right beside the thunderbolt in downtown Phoenix. After looking for the siren at 1st and Jefferson, i decided to look a little farther away... so it turns out that the thunderbolt in Phoenix is on the back of the court building. you need to go to the south side of the building, on the street and into a parking lot across the street to be able to see the siren. im also looking for a few more thuderbolts later today, rumored by some school yards.

There are supposed to be three HOR sirens in the metro area at Tonalea Elementary, Navajo Elementary, and the Motorola/General Dynamics plant on McDowell Road and Granite Reef road. I believe one or both of the schools are in Scottsdale. I have not seen any of them personaly yet, so I don't know if they are still there or not.

I did not get a chance to see the sirens in Scottsdale, as I am in the a
Airport heading home right now... But I did get a chance to see the jailbar thunderbolt at Mounte Vista Elementary school. I will have pictures of 3 sirens, when I get back into Canada. One of the jailbar t bolt, one downtown tbolt and the STH in Peoria...
