Old Mecklenburg NC Fire/Tornado Siren

Sun Jul 17, 2011 7:54 pm

I live in SC, but right under Mecklenburg County. I always see an old abandoned fire station by a new Harris Teeter. It is condemned, but there is a pole mounted siren. It looked like a Federal or Fedelcode, because it had 2 triangles on the bottom, and one on top. I was going to go take a picture today, but something happend. Everything was gone, even the siren. Only dump trucks were there. I was so mad. If someone knows what kind of siren it had, would you tell me? It was near Community House Middle School I think...

Sounds like a Federal/Fedelcode Model 2.

Hey, I live in SC too! There is also a Fedelcode Model 2 near where I live, but I live in Richland County. The siren is next to an old FD which was abandoned in the 70s. Whats cool about it is there is also a Model A side mounted on the pole.

Was this the siren you were talking about? This is the only fire station that I could think of near the location you described.

Just a federal, no damper in it (Fedelcodes have the cap and a louver at the top and one louver at the bottom, standard ones have the middle louver at the bottom.)

Anyway, that other one is either a Model 3 or a 5/7, I can't tell if the louver is wider than the cap or not.

Not all fedelcodes had dampers, you know? Which basically makes them old Federals. That siren pictured above is a 5. You can tell by the height of the housing.

idk6000 actually is the one who got the siren removed and he's actually restoring it. Sometime soon I'm sure he'll have finished pics as well as a Youtube video up of it
