Just because a chain wore through the fiberglass housing isn't a reason to replace a siren. Just refurbish it like the others and adjust the chain cover over to one side so it doesn't rub. I take a step bit and drill the holes oversize so it can be lined up properly.

BTW slick modulator install.

It uses stock pitches for the alerts but different signals for announcements such as evacuating the festival area. We have nine preprogrammed messages for public alerting.

Great Mod installation. I'd hate to see the price tag for powder coating the pole.

On a side note, I have numerous restored sirens ready to go if you're in need of any. Shoot me a PM. I'm up near Romeoville many times a year visiting family.
The pole including powder coating and concrete pier added $11,115 to the price tag for this siren.

It is not the only problem with this unit, poor initial installation, age , animal damage and siren head damage have taken it's toll. The head has animal damage, rings worn out, rubber coupling failing, chain wear through. The control electronics had to be replaced by Federal Signal equipment as the design was poor and the siren either would not activate or it would false and just keep running. Being it was installed in 1993, it has served well for over 20 years. yes the new siren WILL be yellow, I am going for a Federal Signal 508 in the next budget year.

Hey Mike the SRN-B's on Weber that was installed in 2009, did Federal still make the SRN-B then or did you guys just purchase it earlier? I have seen SRN-B's go up long after the 130 came out, so I wasn't sure. I was wondering also why you guys went with an ACA siren by Citgo when you had Federal gear. Will the new siren be installed in the same place as the current one? I would love to watch a siren get installed. Also thank you for doing this, I always thought you guys had a nice system and it's nice that you detailed all this information.

Both sirens 15 & 16 (Weber Road) were purchased in 2006. We had siting problems and then problems with COMED providing electricity to the sites. so they actually went in to service in 2009.

As far as the ACA siren, it was low bid by $3,000 so we were kind of stuck with it. The replacement siren will go in the same spot about 30 feet North as they will be expanding the road soon thus making the siren move necessary.

I'm sure they are. Federal rated their first and second generation SRNs (we dub 2001-DC) at 127 dB with the third generation and SRNB rated at 128 dB. The Modulator rating is accurate. The sirens listed as DC2001 with the 128 dB rating are 2001-SRNs, while the others are second gen -SRNs with the oldest being the first gen "roundback" Throw some -130s and Equinoxes in and you'd have all variations of the 2001, excluding the coded version.
