Brea's Thunderbolt (Superspiel's Siren)

Wed Dec 20, 2006 12:39 am

I was headed to Whittier to see a friend of mine and decided to pass through Brea on the way so I could check if the Thunderbolt at Fire Station #1 located at 555 N. Berry Street was still there. If anyone on the old forums remembered a (somewhat annoying) kid named Superspiel; this is the siren he mentioned to me about since he happened to live a few blocks away in this area.

Anyway, the firefighters appeared to be out on a run at that time so I wasn't able to ask any questions but I walked into the back lot and took a few pictures. The siren itself was located on the training tower, which probably was also used for live burns, and appeared to be in a very bad shape with rust and smoke all over. There was an opened door at the bottom of the training tower which lead to a stairwell and the siren controls were under some stairs but the power does not appear to be on.

Ignore what someone wrote above the CD symbol on this side.

The stairs did go up to the roof but I didn't bring a flashlight and there was fire damage on the upper level so I didn't want to climb them since I feared stepping on a weak spot and falling three stories. Otherwise, I would have had a picture inches from the horn.

One last shot from the back before I left

"THUNDERTHIGHS" (Following the same font as on the original "Thunderbolt" sticker)

I though it would show up but not after I resized the picture.

That would suck being in that building when it goes off! Nice pics too!

You certainly wouldn't want to be in the stairwell when that thing goes off!

That would be a small hotel...and judging he said "The siren itself was located on the training tower" i would imagine it was. Also if you look at the last picture, that thunderbolt is NOT in good condition...

This is my town, what the heck is superspiel? Any way I heard this siren go off about 6 months ago. Reason, because they wanted to scare a guy that was on top of the tower  . Sorry about brining up and old post. I hope of obtaining this siren one day but my towns EMA are jerks.

Max; Superspiel was the name of a member on our old board that lived in the area. He was an annoying kid and later got himself banned but he did tell me about the siren.

Glad to know that it still works as well; I didn't think it would be in operatable condition when I first saw it.
