What is your favorite siren being made today?

Tue Sep 20, 2011 3:01 am

My signature probably gives away which sirens are my favorite, but specifically I love the Sentry 40v2t. Just watch this video of one running one mile away from the camera and you'll see why. It can run on batteries too. Definitely the best siren being made today.

I also love the 3v8 or the 3v8-H sirens. They are very low in power, like the Model 2, but are significantly louder. Perfect for small areas or fire departments in smaller towns. The deep tone still carries pretty far for the amount of power these sirens use. They definitely beat the Model 2.

In terms of electronic sirens, I do like Whelen over Federal Signal and ASC, specifically for the air horn and hi-lo signals. They also carry REALLY far. Even the small hornet can be heard for several miles if the conditions are right. The only downside is they have poor structure penetration, but these are meant to be heard outdoors, right?

For the Electro-Mechanical sirens I would go with the 2001.

For Electronic it would be the Modulator line for the cool tones it can produce.

Granted people would say they are too high piched, but they are still my favorites. I also like the voice and hi-lo of the ATI HPSSs.

I'm inclined to say the 40V2T because omnidirectional powerhouse sirens are hard to come by, or I would say the Defender but they don't seem to make those any more, so I'm gonna go with the 2001/Equinox for their powerful, howling windup.

(ASCs are really good at what they do but by God they're boring as a loaf of bread.)

For electronic, I'll go DSA for being completely unpretentious. And because those speaker arrays look pretty slick IMO.

In terms of mechanicals, definitely the 40V2T! Forty horsepower and a 2/3 tonal ratio... you basically have the perfect siren.

As for electronics, I'd go with anything Whelen, though I've always been a big fan of the Vortex.
The only downside is they have poor structure penetration, but these are meant to be heard outdoors, right?
No siren has good penetration of structures at a certain distance. Whelens would probably be amongst the better sirens for penetration, though.

I'll have to go with the 40V2T and any of Sentry's single-tone sirens. What I'd really like to see is a 20V2T with an 8-10 port ratio. The 40V2T has a 10 port rotor and Sentry has plenty of 8 port rotors, so it could be done.

Anything by Sentry. Not bashing any other companies, by any means, but you hardly ever see or hear of a system of those malfunctioning or failing. Can't wait to see where all the new locations in Gwinnett County will be.

I'm going with the Sentry 40V2T as well. It's powerful, omnidirectional, now battery powered, and has a really nice and attention-getting sound.

Like everyone else, I'd have to go with the 40V2T. Lebanon's awesome system of 20V2Ts sounds pretty good as well.
