Orting to possibly install Modulator II!

Thu Jun 13, 2013 10:24 pm

While exchanging messages with the Alert and Warning coordinator of Pierce County, Tom Sharp, he has notified me that a Modulator 5020 located at Ptarmigan Ridge School will be replaced sometime this year, probably sometime this summer. I recommended that they get an Eclipse, 508, or Mod II, he said they might go for a Modulator II!

He also told me that a siren in Fife will be replaced as well, but i'm yet to find out that information.

I will post updates as i recieve new information!

Why are they replacing it? Did it get hit by lightning or something?

They said it wasn't operating for tests, and that's all they said. I assume the *possible* Modulator II will have a cool blue strobe on it like all the Mods here.

Wow this is the first time I have ever heard of the Modulator II. How long has it been in production?

Indeed, I'm trying to get them to install a dual tone one, that would sound good with a mix of Modulators and a Whelen.

January 2013. They are fresh off Whelens factory floor!
Really, or do you mean Federal Signal? I didn't think Whelen made them.

Also appears that as of 2010, the Modulator in downtown Orting with tone generating issues has been fixed. It had problems coming out with the right UltraVoice tone back in 2008 when installed.

Anyone have an idea where the Pierce County Siren graveyard might be? Cause Orting used to have a 2T22 (replaced by Modulator), and i want to go take a look at it...

Not every city has a siren graveyard. In fact, most towns just scrap or give their old sirens to other city's for them to use. It is possible the sirens are at the county public works, or call and ask where they are.

That would be cool if the mod 2 gets installed! The siren down the street from me is busted and its replacement will most likely be a modulator 2! I surprised PCEMA doesn't install 508's instead since they don't utilize the MOD's for voice.
