Re: Huntsville, AL switching to Sentry Siren Activation Syst

Are any of the older sirens being replaced? I know some new locations will be installed, but will any of the older sirens that don't work well anymore be replaced?

Yes. Im not sure on the timeframe. The new sites will be 20V2T's. Sound will be distributed in all directions at once with those.

Will it be a system-wide siren replacement (as in the sirens them-selves, not the controls), or will the ones that don't work properly be replaced? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions, I'm just very curious.

It's nice to know that they are switching to nice reliable sirens.

Madison County has 2001s (ACs, SRNs, a SRNB, and a 130), RSH-10s, and Model 2/2ts currently. I'm not sure if all of them will be replaced (I sure hope not; even if they are, it won't be the end of the world), or if only the ones that aren't preforming properly will be replaced.

The computer system that turns the sirens on is being replaced. We can actually activate the sirens in the polygon warning area the NWS issues and not activate them in other areas that are away from the polygon.

No, we arent replacing working sirens. That would be a waste of money. The 20V2T's will be for new sites and perhaps to replace a failed siren that cannot be repaired. We are adding 6 or 7 sites in the coming months. Most will be in the county. The cities are fairly well covered.

The 20v's going to be installed on those steel towers like the 2001s or on poles?

Wooden poles, I believe.
