Funny, I was just at Blue Mounds State Park east of Barneveld yesterday, and my girlfriend and I were discussing the tornado. Its course was altered by the mound, perhaps deterring it from the more populated suburbs of Mt. Horeb, Verona, and perhaps Madison.
I have always wondered what they had prior to 1984 as well, I'm guessing it was just a fire siren. Sorry I don't know, but I do know in the mid- to late 90s, I'm pretty sure I remember seeing an XT22 atop their fire station. Sometime after, they got a 2001 which remains there to this day, near the water tower.
A resident of arguably the most siren-diverse county in history.
