July 17-18th Alabama trip

Fri Jul 19, 2013 6:31 pm

We went to the Birmingham, AL area to check out housing and schools, since my parents got jobs in the area. I did find some sirens, and of course, I'm posting the pictures.

Whelen 2904 in Oxford, AL.

2001-SRN near the 20/459 intersection.

Another one. Siren is at the bottom right.

2001 that was within walking distance of our hotel. We stayed at the LaQuinta on Riverchase Parkway.

Q siren that was on a old fire truck next to the Sunoco on US 31

Goldboro Shopping Center 2t22

Finback Whelen along Valleydale Road. I'm guessing this one has the ultravoice controls, like most of Jefferson and Shelby Countys Whelens. This one is in Shelby.

Lorna Ridge Dr. Thunderbolt 1000AT (or BT) in Hoover

Hoover Senor Center Thunderbeam

2001-SRN at Simmons Middle School in Hoover

Thunderbolt at Chapel and Farley in the community of Bluff Park

Bluff Park Elementary Thunderbolt

Sort of low mounted Thunderbeam behind Bluff Park Baptist Church

South Shades Crest Elementary Thunderbolt (Yes, it is a Jailbar)

Whelen 2810 (or 2910) in Riverside, AL

Whelen 2904 near Anniston, AL

Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1003A atop the Richard B. Russell Federal Building in Atlanta, GA. You may have to look closely.

Enjoy the photos!

It appears that the Vortex pictured above still has its original controls. Using 45 degree angle option in Google Maps shows a singular small rectangular box on the pole.

On a side note, I bet that 2T22 sounds off when there are specialties at the Mandaria House...

If you are still in Alabama go check out the siren graveyard on Springdale RD in Birmingham. I want someone to get a better video than my cousin made.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
