Need AR Timer Assistance

Mon Jul 22, 2013 12:52 am

Knew a of a guy who had an old AR timer. Picked it up today and now I'm trying to get it running. Hooked 120V to terminals 8 and 9 per the diagram and found it wouldn't turn on. Looked closer and nothing was wired to 8.... So I'm assuming the timer ran off of 240 previously. Any idea what to wire terminal 8 (the neutral for 120V hookup) to?

There should be a yellow wire coming out of the power transformer, that is where the terminal 8 is supposed to be hooked up to.

Timer schematics are in the thunderbolt manual.

I think they are on page pdf page 43 / manual page 40. They are after the RCM schematics.
One or two transformer wires is supposed to hook up there.
Does it run on 220?
If you need a transformer I have a whole batch of new ones for later AR AF timers.

That transformer has been changed. All it does is step down 240 to 120.

After some great help I got the timer working, or so I thought..... Turns out the relays don't latch...... The timer runs through a cycle but 1 and 2 don't work unless the button is pressed, any ideas on what causes this and what I need to jump in the timer to correct my problem?

I believe you have to place a jumper between contacts 15 and 16 but its been awhile since I've played with an AR.

Without a jumper there the cancel circuit is open. That causes the timer to cancel as soon as you take your finger off of the button.
Most timers people get were removed from AR cabinets. The wires from the radio cancel circuit hooked up to terminals 15 and 16.
The wires get removed and that results in the cancel circuit being open all the time. The new-in-box AF timers I got several years ago
all had jumpers in place because they came from Federal as single units not as part of a radio box.
