Thunderbeam question

Tue Jul 23, 2013 12:45 am

OK, so I recently learned that the RSH-10 Thunderbeam was essentially an STH-10 in a different housing with the rotating reflector, and someone suggested that "RSH" stood for Rotating Siren, High (tone).

This made me wonder--was there ever an RSL-10?

As far as I know there has never been anything made like that. The STL-10 had been out of production for sometime before the thunderbeam was offered as far as I remember at least.

I had thought for a few years now that Federal's first prototypes of the Thunderbeam were 7 port. I read it somewhere, I think on this forum that Federal installed perhaps 2 or more RSL-10s for experimental purposes. So, it could be possible but most likely I'm wrong. Btw if I end up being right, the RSL-10s have been long since removed and no longer exist.

I guess if you really wanted to, you could custom-fabricate a slightly bigger top deflector and squish an STL-10 chopper in there.

Any vids or ads about the rsl?

No, it was one of a few of Federal's odd experiments that obviously ended in disaster, or wasn't satisfactory. There are a few Thunderbeams on YouTube that are sick enough that they could be mistaken for being a sluggish-motored RSL-10.

Just occurred to me, Federal could have made an RDH-10 (Rotating Dual-tone High)... the 500AT's 10/12 chopper is the same diameter as the standard RSH chopper. I'd get a kick out of someone attempting that. They didn't make an RDH because the RSH was one of Federal's pushes to phase out dual-tone sirens.

The 2001 actually started out as an updated RSH-10. There are some interesting patents out for it.

Go take a look at the original post again, it's been changed now and should work.

He Said STH-10 not STL-10. Thunderbeams Are basicly Kind of Rotating STH-10's but I am not an expert on those, We do not have any where I live.

The question was "Was there ever an RSL-10?" Mixerbd699 replied by saying the STL was discontinued before the idea of the Thunderbeam became a reality. Make sense now?

OT: I'm curious if the 2001 shown in the patent was actually available at some time. If it was, were there any installed? If there were some installed, where are they?
