A few months ago the City of Hubbard, Tx contacted me about some issues with their old Sterling M-5 that they used for their fire call as well as for tornado warnings. It had stopped working and they were looking to get it back up and running as well as they were interested in possibly obtaining a bigger siren that would cover the entire town. I made the trip down there to meet with them to look at their Sterling to see if could be fixed without major funds being dumped into it. After looking at the Sterling I found that some sort of wildlife had drug sticks, hunks of wire, and other junk into the rotors and it jammed the siren up causing the starter's heater coils to burn up. While the coils wern't a huge deal, the other problem I found was, I found that one main wires that supplies power to the siren from the starter had insulation that had completely rotted out and left the bare copper exposed to the element. This wire was inside the metal timer box, which was bolted to the metal tower the siren was mounted on. Needless to say that siren is no longer going to be used and was given to their historical group.
The Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department decided to purchase the last T-128 that was in Norman, and elected to have me completely overhaul the siren so it could be installed and go back into service. This siren will be installed on a Class II 50ft telephone pole and can be activated by either radio or a remote activation panel within the station. I will post some pictures later tonight of the overhaul and completed siren as well as some pictures of the install that will happen on friday.
This siren was removed yesterday (8-14-2013) from Norman and will be installed Friday (8-16-2013)... talk about a short turn around, but it can be done since I have the help of two siren masters!
