Chrysler Sirens

Mon Sep 02, 2013 2:18 am

Anyone know if any cities still have them rusting away? And what cities had them?

There's one rusting away in North Acres Park in Seattle, and a restored one on Phinney Ridge in Seattle. In total there used to be 7-8 or more. There used to be a Chrysler in Spokane.

There's still a Chrysler on Cerro Negro lookout in LA County, one in Independence, MO. Chicago had some, Rochester, NY has one or two still up.

In general, the areas near and in Seattle, Los Angeles, New York City, and Kansas City had quite a few of them. ;)

The 2 I know of are in Greenville, SC on the Poinsett Hotel, and in Kansas City, MO on the US Army Records building.

Portland, Oregon, had six Chryslers at one time as well as number of Decots. No sirens of any kind
survive in that city.

The Chrysler in Glendale, CA at the Cerro Negro lookout station is still there, AFAIK. It's in deteriorated condition, but definitely not rusted out (YET). There is also part of one on the roof of the old Firestone Tire & Rubber Co building in Southgate, CA. Engine stolen years ago, but the chassis, rotator and blower with horns is still up there (last word I heard).

Detroit, MI had several. I think 12? not sure though that number just comes to mind. Lansing and Grand Rapids may have had one to. I think Kalamazoo had one or two.

How large of an electric motor would one need to replace the engine on a Chrysler?
