Dearborn, MI new Modulator

Thu Jan 09, 2014 1:21 am

about a week before Christmas, I saw a utility truck with the pole on the ground, getting ready to set it. there used to be an omnidirectional Whelen there a while back, and when I saw the boxes on the side I figured the pole was going to be for a siren.

leaving work today, I noticed it was up. 4-cell Modulator (sorry for the portrait orientation):

Nice. It's a Mod II, I think 4016B is the model. Did the old Whelen have a UV installed?

...is it just the lighting, or is that Mod actually in CD yellow?

Lighting. It was dusk, sun was going down. And a not so great phone camera.

The MOD II looks white to me.

As far as I'm aware, no. The new system was most if not all 2001-130s. No retrofitting.

sorry, for anyone familiar with the area (or looking for it on google maps) this is on Oakwood Blvd. just north of Village Rd. I've found that if you do a street view on that intersection you'll be able to see the old Whelen.

It IS a Mod II. Notice how much smaller and compact it is.

What was the reason for the Whelen replacement? So then is this the only electronic siren left since they replaced most with 2001's?

That had been established in the second and fifth posts, just not the exact model within the line.

From what I'm reading here: http://www.cityofdearborn.org/news-and- ... on-the-way, it was just a way to enhance the safety of the public. The only electronic sirens that were replaced were the old system of 27x0s, then came the new system of 2001-130s. This is an addition to the system along with several others.
