I'm the City Manager in the town of Harlem, Georgia (just outside Augusta). I've had a couple of residents approach me about using an old air raid siren that we own. As I understand it, this siren was mounted on a water tank in town and used until the early 90's when the tank was taken down. The tank was refurbished and put back up, but the siren was not. It's been sitting in a storage shed since that time. The residents seem to think that this would work as a tornado warning siren. I just wanted to get some thoughts on (1) whether that's a viable idea, both from a siren operations standpoint and a cost standpoint, and (2) if it is a viable idea, who in the world restores/repairs these things?
The siren is made by Darley & Co. and the tag appears to say "Type TTR-BCVM7". I'm not sure when it was made or any information other than what's on that tag. I've attached a few pictures I took of the siren. Any info you guys could provide would be very much appreciated.
