Nanaimo BC siren system

Fri May 16, 2014 7:07 am

I noticed on the internet that Nanaimo, BC, Canada recently put up a system of flood sirens. Does anyone know what kind of sirens they are? From news reports, I have been able to figure out that they are probably electronic.

6 sirens across town. Nearby Tofino has mod's and Port Alberni has Whelens.

Can't identify what they are in this video... ATI's?

Thanks for the link and info. I had no idea that anyone had posted a test of the sirens on youtube, as when I searched it up, I couldn't find anything.

They sound similar to Christchurch, New Zealand's ATI tsunami sirens and also notice they get suddenly louder at 18 seconds which is also similar to Christchurch.

Sounds like a Federal Signal Modulator using a custom tone.

I can only imagine the strain that they are putting on those drivers!

How is that tone straining those drivers? You still have a sine wave tone rising and falling from a high and low pitch. No worse than any electronic siren in wail.

Those aren't ATIs or Mods - they're Hormanns. UVa's system uses the exact same tone.
