Chicago Midway Airport Thunderbolt 1000

Thu Jul 17, 2014 11:57 pm

Risked my life today (the basement is covered with asbestos) to get these pictures today. Now if only I could get up on that roof and take a look at this beauty. Sorry for the poor quality and sideways pics, the lights don't work down there.

Awesome! I love these really old RCM's. The oldest one Iv'e got is a TC7, and from the looks of it, they're not too different.

There was a thread awhile back, I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: Here it is

I have the suspicion that this was a bumblebolt a one time.
My knowledge excels on the Federal Thunderbolt siren and SiraTone EOWS sirens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It could very well have been, I thought I saw an old picture of one in Chicago (but I could very well be wrong). I'm not sure if this is the one that was painted completely yellow, but if it isn't, it might be black (not painted black). The reason why, is because a lot of Jailbars that I have seen, such as Clearwater FL, Independence MO, and Schenectady NY all seem to have lost most, if not all, of their paint. I wonder if its just a coincidence of age, or if Federal ever used a lesser quality paint at one point that didn't hold up as much as other thunderbolts painted CD yellow did.
Sorry for the derailment  . Does this one have the screen over the bars? I'm pretty sure it is, but I can't remember.

Someone was playing with it recently. It has been facing southwest for a long time, today I noticed it pointing northeast.
