The Siren Board

I was browsing YouTube looking at videos of Whelen Hornets and decided to type "WS400H" into Google and up comes a close up picture of the WS 2016 in Canon Beach, Oregon retrofitted with four of those speakers. Link to their photo gallery below. Apparently they are the ones who installed the Whelen sirens in Mexico.

Those are some very interesting installs. Don't think I've ever seen a wind turbine on a siren before.

I also like the trailer sirens and the tilt mono pole. No need for a bucket truck.

Cannon beach oregon is just unique anyway... Seaside has some pretty interesting whelen mounts too. Last time I was up there I told my grandmother a little about DC here and she and I thought it was kind of cool that a siren that he helped design was standing tall and proud in front of us... That's cool too about that company up there... I have been trying to figure out a way to get the sirens in longview kalama and kelso down for restorations and re installations. 2 of them are whelen 2... Somethings I can't remember what they were. DC anything to be cautious about when removing, restoring or even touching any of the whelens? But as for topic again yes in seaside the one I most distinctly remember is the 2 speaker mount in some part of the city near broadway.

The whelens? Depends. When it comes to the whelen it depends on whats wrong with it... If anything... But these have been up there for quite a while and my siren knowledge is rather limited in that field. The thunderbolts? I feel like I know that siren pretty well. Rather simple siren in my opinion. If I was limited in an area I either find someone to help with that area (Which I don't see me running into with the bolts...) or I'd sell it to a private collector (Because I would be paying to get them down. What I would do with the bolts after the fact though is probably get them back into service. There were some universities who wanted them and some coastal cities that I am sure would need a few more areas covered. And yes I know I post "Stupid" questions on the board but please keep in mind that actually HEARING the loudness of a particular siren is difficult as we don't have one every 5 blocks. Maybe every 5 towns at the most and most of those are disconnected anyway. So like my question on the hurricane for example, We don't have a single one out here to my knowledge. Heck I own 1 of 3 maybe 4 Thunderbolts that sounded for tsunami warnings out here. I haven't even heard mine in person with the 5M. (Although I have heard a 6M in person in nebraska. Oh and the blower I might get my hands on would be a 5H.) Our biggest variety of sirens are 2 2001s, model 5's STL and STH (Which I still haven't heard the STH in person out here) 10s, model 2's and electronic sirens (Haven't heard the electronic sirens out here in person either). And yes like I said I used to live in nebraska... But I was scared of sirens back then. All I knew was they were loud and meant something bad was coming. (Plus where I was at there were 2001's Thunderbolts and the 3T22's that I never heard.) So to answer your question in full yes I was planning (Key word planning) to restore the thunderbolts. Maybe the whelens. Sorry to derail but I wanted to answer that for you.

We'll, you are going to get in WAY over your head in that field. Where are you going to store it? Assuming that you cannot even store your own siren at your own house. Second off, just owning a thunderbolt doesn't mean you are able to restore it. Owning a siren and restoring a siren are two different things all together. And third off, are you aware how much a crane costs? They are not cheap at ALL. Unless you have a deep pocket, and a place to store the sirens, you would be way better off.

I know cranes aren't... And honestly the city is kind of being a PITA about it... Yes I do have a plan and a place to restore them but things have to kind of fall into place. Well restoring a thunderbolt siren for me would probably look like this: My grandmother is a retired museum person... She has a masters degree in museum studies. So she would take care of most the outer parts. The motors would have to be looked at, gears greased, maybe have the motors rewound, maybe get a used motor from someone there are options there. (What would be really nice is if lion kings model 2 knockoff were at exact specs... That way I can replace the motor while only paying 400 for it. ) I can just about bet the thunderbolts are going to have an extreme amount of problems. (Longview removed 2 and waldport had this problem too... But they found that one of longviews 4Ms had fried and one of waldports 5Ms fried. For those who know the waldport bolts it was the one on broadway and spencer with the broken rotator.) But I don't know... If it came down to it I could probably fix them up but things would have to fall into place first. I will give you one thing though... I am in way over my head alright

Not mine. The ones in longview if it comes down to it. She would know what she is doing in that area although I would be there with her helping out. We are going to conserve mine as an artifact after I blast it.
