Interesting modified Thunderbolt picture

Fri Nov 28, 2014 11:49 pm

I would not usually post something like this, but I found it very interesting. Here is a thunderbolt installed on a tower in some city that has been modified. It appears that the rotator box has been completly removed and aimed in one direction. You can see the blower at the bottom:

According to the ebay auction this photo is from, this photo was taken Cleveland, Ohio. However, I do agree with you. This is a very interesting modification of a Thunderbolt.

Huh. They must have done these roof installations in an attempt to cover a wider area.

Wichita had a Thunderbolt installed on a roof downtown. I guess it got pretty deafening down there, and the county emergency management had found out that it was in an already well-covered area.

I'm not sure if they are going to put another unit up in it's place or not- but our ATIs are already falling apart.

Hmm. I'm guessing that was a top/side of Terminal Tower in downtown. Sure looks like it could be. Finding anything about Cuyahoga County's Civil Defense system is always a treat to me, since it's like finding the needle in a haystack unless you go through any paid digital archives. Thanks for sharing.
