Altoona, PA Civile Defense System

Sun Dec 28, 2014 4:56 am

I've learned a bit about the civile defense system of Altoona. I found two sirens in one area of the city. One was a Federal Signal STL-10 mounted on top a building and the other was an SD-10 mounted alon side a road. My question is, are these parts of the city's old civile defense system or are they volunteer fire department sirens? Also a list of all the sirens in the Civile Defense system would be greatly appreciated along with their locations.

Someone made a map of the system a while back, BTW.

Just so you know without having to look at the map, there's still an STH-10 atop of the locomotive shops on the northern end of the complex, near the turntable.

The link to the map doesn't work for some reason.

I can too, so it must be mobile-friendly, to say the least.
On the topic of that city, I have a gut feeling that the old sirens removed were sent to fire departments in need of a siren, sounds like PA to me...
Edit: after looking at the map, I think that STL-10 was removed.

What STL-10 are you referring to? Because I know of one in an Eastern section of the city.

It's #1 on the map, in the northeast part of the city.
