Buffalo Fire Dept's Sentry 7V8 + Bonus Find in Fire Dept's Storage

Tue Jan 27, 2015 2:41 am

Hello everyone! I want to tell the story first before the pics. After I recorded the 2001-AC in Whitmire, SC on January 17. I decided to go to the Buffalo Fire Department in Buffalo, SC to see what their "mystery siren" is. I went there and the siren is a Sentry 7V8. Since there were firemen in the fire department, I asked the firemen when the siren is tested and what the siren is controlled by. They said the siren is tested every Saturday at noon in 90 seconds of attack signal and it's controlled by the county (Union County, SC). They use the siren for fire calls and tornado warnings. The firemen told me they have old sirens in the fire department's storage room (I don't recall the exact story the firemen said to us). I went to the storage room and found that they have a Model 2T and a Gamewell Diaphone. They are not selling them or scrapping them. They want to keep them. The Model 2T is currently missing the housing, the fire dept is looking for the original housing for it.

Here's the pics of the Sentry 7V8:

Here's the history about the Diaphone and the Model 2T:

In the 1920's (or 1930's, 1940's), the Diaphone was installed for use as a fire horn. Then in the early 1970's, the Diaphone was replaced with a Model 2T (I don't know why the Diaphone was replaced). In 2008/2009, the Model 2T was struck by lightning and was replaced with a Sentry 7V8. The old Model 2T radio controllers, motor starter are now hooked up to the current siren (the Sentry 7V8).

That's all!
