Running a Motor Siren from a Generator?

Sun Feb 08, 2015 9:50 am

I would like to ask if anyone has experience running a 3 phase siren from generator and what capacity of a generator is best to run a siren, ie. the generator having an output in KWs of 100%, 150% or 200% of the motor's rating?

Many thanks.

I run them all the time off my 10KW genset. Several members on here run their sirens off a genset during the meetup.

I would say that your best bet is to look up the starting amperage current draw in the siren's manual, then make sure that you have a generator with enough power to provide that much current for the time it takes to get to the continuous draw levels! Once that's satisfied, I'd expect that you'd have more than enough power to cover its continuous run requirements, though certainly having extra capacity in the generator is easier on it than having it have to run at maximum rated output just to power the siren.
