Dutch air raid sirens

Wed Feb 25, 2015 12:18 am

i'm researching the dutch sirens, as they seem to resemble the siemens fm si 41.
however, they sound like 9 port / 50hz as the german E57 does.

Is it known if Philips , the electronic giant from Eindhoven, have made sirens
for the kingdom of the netherlands in ww2 time?

The Dutch use Modulators as far as I know. Here are a few picture of some from the Siren Archive:

Thanks, i finnaly got how it works. i know the electronic sirens, happens that i have doubts about those mechanical ones, i'd like to learn who made them, as i know they're not siemens despite the double hat design like the old german units..

They are made by Federal Signal Corporation (http://www.federalsignal-indust.com/products/sirens) and the Modulator Series was recently updated to the Modulator II Series.

It may very well be possible that companies switched production to sirens during the war. For example, Remington Rand, A typewriter company in the US, was retooled to make 1911s for the army. My point is pretty much every single industry contributed to the war effort, so anything could be possible.

Those are specifically MOD-2008s.

Most dutch civil defense sirens use their own form of signal, kind of like fast wail on steroids. It's only on the MOD-2008s, which are electronic sirens. Electronic sirens are the only ones capable of this tone.
