Old Thundrbolt Pole

Thu May 07, 2015 1:14 pm

I was chatting with our EMA director about any older sirens that still remain in our city, Columbus, GA, the other day. For those that don't know, we used to have some Thunderbolt 1000ATs, 2001-SRNs, and a crap ton of SD-10s, where the SD-10s were constantly being relocated as former sites were upgraded to Thunderbolts or 2001s depending on the time of replacement. We didn't scrap sirens til McCord came along and replaced everything with our now half functional system of Whelen WPS-2800 series sirens.... because "they are all electronic with no moving bla bla." Anyway after talking with him he told me that we only have one standing in the city, the SD-10B at Columbus State University, but that's pretty much it for any older sirens. He gave me a tip that he seen an older siren in one of our parks, so I decided to investigate and what not. No sirens, but something rather interest was there.

For comparison, here's the one that used to reside in Belvedere Park. I think all of the ones like this that were installed in the 70's were all mounted on concrete poles.
