Whelen Hornet Running Hi-lo in Paoli, IN

Well, I decided to come back to Paoli to record one of their Hornets only to test out a new tripod, a shotgun mic, and to catch the tones from the scanner. Plus, the last time I recorded this particular unit, the one near the hospital, I only had the old Handycam which recorded on tapes only. Pretty old. Expecting this to run wail-tone like four years ago, I was pretty surprised to hear this do hi-lo. It was also pretty cool hearing the tones as well. More info in the description. Enjoy.

Either there's something up with that logic board or they sent two different activation tones back-to-back for that group, one for presumably wail and the other for hi-lo. Notice right as it starts up, it "winds up" as it would in something like alert, attack, wail, or whoop, but immediately shifts to hi-lo for the three minute run. Definitely something odd going on there, but the little guy sounds good no less!

It must be a professional Thunderbolt 1003 impersonator, iv'e gotta get it a job on Fremont Street when i go to Vegas next week.
Down to a Thunderbolt chopper, still a few goofy flashlight-siren combos, and a Model L.

Something tells me it's the latter - the reaction times to the last two strings seem to be nearly the same. If it had received multiple wail commands it probably would've "whooped" like the Surry Power Station 2800s here.

I counted four DTMF streams in the scanner audio. Probably multiple messages sent one over the top of the other. I hould try and decode that audio and see if I can extract them. Sounded like wail, Air Horn then Hi-LO.
