How to retrieve siren locations...

Wed Sep 02, 2015 3:43 am

Straight to the point...the city I live in does not disclose the locations of the sirens on their website page. But discloses the number of sirens within the system. At this point it is very much driving around and hoping at seeing sirens. Are localities allowed or have to to disclose the siren locations if you call them or email them?

They don't have to. But you can call or email and ask. I have done so in the past and have never had a problem.

What City are you looking at in Michigan? Looking for such info on a City's web site in my experience brings two results. Either there is a lot of good information or hardly any. Keep in mind even in some of the larger cities or county run EMA's the person in charge has other duties besides the EMA job. I've seen this a lot especially where you have a Law Enforcement or Fire Dept personnel running the EMA. Usually they are way too busy to be working on their web page.

In my community they don't list the sirens on the local government sites, but they do have a map in the County Mitigation plan which I happened to stumble over one day.

I know Ann Arbor lists or at least used too their siren locations. Never seen them listed in Lansing but if it is Lansing you are searching for I can tell you where most of the sirens are there.

My home town Midland, MI. I posted a map of all the locations I know of in the Siren Maps Fourms.

They just recently added a page about the system to their website...before that the only thing they disclosed was the test schedule.

Sorry if the link doesn't work. Not sure why I can't make it work. Just google "Hazard Mitigation Plan Midland Co MI. and you should be able to find the PDF document. As I wrote above it's on page 65. Hope this is what you are looking for.

Great, I don't get up that way very often. Was up there very long time ago. Took my Father to a car show one summerup in Saginaw Co I believe and got to hear a test day on that Saturday. At the time the sirens there were tested that day at 11:45 on Saturday. Seems as I recall there were a lot of ASC sirens in that area back then.

Midland has a system of RM-130s, with a T-128 here and there. It was installed from around the late 1990s to provide warning of Chemical Emergencies (& Tornado Warnings) from Dow Chemical. Tests occur on the first Saturday of each month at 12:45 p.m. Growl tests occur every Saturday at 12:45 p.m. The testing procedure for the monthly test is at 12:45 the growl test occurs and then at 12:50 a three minute alert signal is sounded.

I know in Bay County they have a FS system within Bay City and at the state park. Pinconning, where I used to live has a old, inactive STH-10 at the police station.

Isabella County has a Whelen system.

Saginaw County has a FS system with 2001s and Modulators from what I have seen on the news. Tests occur on the first Wednesday of each month at noon.

Now that you mention the 12:45 test time I remember at the time thinking it was odd that they didn't test at the top of the hour like most places do either at noon or 1PM on the first Saturdays here in Michigan.

It was so long ago but it was an annual Antique Car show they had every year back then. I'm thinking it was maybe at the Midland Fair Grounds. If my memory is correct I believe there was an Airport close by. It was 15 or 20 years ago.
