Sauk Prairie Power Equipment 9/4/15

Sun Sep 06, 2015 1:20 pm

I had the great privilege to go visit Bill Nagler owner of Red Arrow Siren Service and Sauk Prairie Power equipment on Friday. I've been talking with him on the phone occasionally for about two years now, so I thought it would be great to meet in person. My former electrical college instructor and I left from Fairmont, MN on Friday the 4th at 6:30 AM to begin the 5.5 hour trip to Prairie Du Sac WI. The main reason we went is because at the college we were low on 3-phase induction motors single phase induction motors, universal motors, wound rotor, synchronous, etc. for the students to take apart and test. It was not exactly a monstrous score, but Bill managed to find us a couple dozen. We hope to take a trip back there soon for some more. If you don't know Bill, he is an icon of WI. Probably one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He knows his store front shop inside and out, even though he is legally blind. It is so amazing that he knows about every motor in his shop without looking at them, he just feels the shaft. And he also knows even the small details about each one, where it was made, and what it was used for at one time. If you can ever take time off to go see him, I'm sure he would appreciate your visit! The photos I have attached are of his shop, and the famous 12 HP Decot he restored for the Fire Department. He also has a 12 HP 10/15 siren head assembly (pictured), and its very rare smaller sibling 3 HP 10/15 Decot (also pictured).

Great photos! That last one was the kind Seattle once used.
