What is the closest siren junkyard to Columbus Ohio?

Mon Sep 14, 2015 11:59 pm

Ok so I want to go to a siren junkyard so that I can look at sirens up close and maybe spin the chopper of some of them. But is there one close to Columbus Ohio? I think I might have heard there is one in Circleville, but is this true? I know there is WSS, but that is a good five hour drive from home, so is there one closer to Columbus? What is the closest siren junkyard to Columbus?

I'm pretty sure Columbus doesn't have one. If we did, I would have visited it by now. :P

Siren junkyards are a sensitive topic, because in most cases it's illegal to mess with sirens in a pile- it's the city's property, not yours. WSS is the only case where sirens in a pile are owned by a company who is generous enough to do deals with collectors and let them walk around their yard.

Werden Electric in Golf Manor, Ohio. He has an open house about once a year for siren enthusiasts.

What holler said. I go there every year (And drop in occasionally when I'm in the area :P). Either way, it's great fun!

Say wasn't it about this time last year? I remember studying for my first round of midterms in my hotel room. :hat:

And IDK you might be able to count my backyard as one, nothing except the Sparton has come out of there alive. (yet) :TBolt:

When does Werden Electric have its open house? Since I'm not too far from the area, I'm fairly interested in making a stop there.

He will notify everyone about it in the Cinci Metro Area Sirens thread, and usually word gets around to everyone. Usually, like Calvin said, it's around this time of year.

Speaking of Werden, is the SD-10 controlled by them, or is it still controled by Hamilton County?
In my opinion, I think there way too many 2001's in Indiana!

I'm pretty sure that one was taken off of the county system and he just keeps it hooked up and blasts it every now and again. I don't even think it has a radio hooked up to the controller.
