Finding Models of 2001's, Thunderbolts, and Whelen sirens,

Hello! I'm a siren hunter, When ever I find a siren, I don't know how to determine the model. Can anyone tell me tricks or tips to identifying siren models?

Start Googling or YouTubing siren brands. Go to Google Images or Youtube and google, for example, "Whelen tornado siren" or "ACA siren" or some such thing. There's a lot of misinformation out there so be careful. Study the catalogues you find, images from collectors, etc. Eric Green's Civil Defense Museum (http://www.civildefensemuseum.com/) is a wonderful place to start. For modern sirens, just visit the manufacturer websites and study them.

Fact: The ACA P-10 and P-15 have different intake cones. P-10s have one expanding to the edge of the stator; P-15s have a straight one, or a shape like the P-10s. If you didn't know. And the number means the motor HP.

Here's another one: the Thunderbolt 1000 and 1000T look identical from the outside, the only difference being the port count (5 for 1000, 4/5 or 5/6 for1000T). The 1003 has a bar (dubbed the "bow tie") at the beginning of the horn.
Also Some_3T22s, the P-10 had the large conical intake and the P-15 had the straight cylindrical one. Just to make things more difficult, some P-15s had the conical intake too, so think of this: straight = single tone, conical = dual tone.

Vortexes have a rectangular rotator and aren't voice capable. 4004's however are voice capable and have a square rotator.

Incorrect. Dual tone models have the cone shaped intake and single tone models have the straight tube intake. There were single tone P-10's made; however they were only three phase as the single phase 10hp motor could not handle the load.

As well as dual-tone P-15's. I've seen too many people incorrectly insist that a P-15 is a P-10 because it's dual tone. All of our's are P-15's, with one that i know being single phase.
